Our Mission

The lotus is a symbol of emergence and liberation; it grows from the mud where it is rooted, is cleansed by the water it pushes through, and opens in the sunny air. All Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are depicted sitting or standing on translucent lotuses, suggestive of their transcendent nature. It is Padmasana, or the lotus position, that the practice of Ashtanga yoga brings us to. We hope that the practice of yoga and meditation at Green Lotus Yoga Studio will contribute to the growth, happiness and equanimity of all who attend.

Green Lotus Yoga Studio is an Ashtanga Shala, or school of Ashtanga yoga. We strive to provide a warm, clean, and bright space in which to practice. In addition to classes in Ashtanga yoga, we will provide workshops addressing the philosophy and ethics of yoga, Buddhist meditation, and a variety of seminars addressing health, diet, and the use of herbs.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures - a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind. more

As Green As We Can Be

In operating our studio, we will do our best to make conscientious choices that reflect our care for the environment.

• In renovating the studio we chose low or no VOC paint for the walls and water based finish for the floors to limit fumes and water waste.

• We use recycled and biodegradable paper products. Most of our brochures and marketing materials will be printed on recycled paper with soy and vegetable based inks.

• Our yoga mats are made with natural rubber and contain no PVC or synthetic rubber.

• We use natural cleaning products by Seventh Generation.

• We do not supply cups for our water cooler, instead encouraging our students to bring their own water bottles.

•  We recycle or compost almost all of our trash/waste at the studio using local composting company EcoMovement Consulting and Hauling.

• We use cloth hand-towels for hand-washing, eliminating the use of papertowels.
